The UNFPA Deputy Executive Director began her visit to Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) with a meeting with the country office staff. This decision shows the importance she accords to human resources. The staff, recognizing the remarkable work she had done in the DRC, gave her a very warm welcome. Speaking at the event, the DED said,

Coming to sit with my family, the UNFPA staff in the field is very important to me.”

After the welcome ceremony, the office presented the country program and a film on the major achievements of UNFPA in DRC  the Deputy Executive Director. Very moved, she added

I thank you for your very warm welcome".

This meeting was an opportunity for the staff to share their concerns with her. After the remarks of the staff representative, the UNFPA DED responded in these terms:

The three concerns raised are very important to me: self-development and career development of staff and their role in contributing to the development of other countries. We need to think about how to put mechanisms in place to assist them.

During this visit to the UNFPA country office in Kinshasa, the Deputy Executive Director/Programme was accompanied by the Regional Director of UNFPA ESARO, Ms. Lydia Zigomo and the regional desk specialist Mr. Samuel Kissi.

The visit also included staff from all UNFPA decentralized offices in the DRC connected online and they had the opportunity to interact with Dr. Diene Keita and her delegation.

The visit ended with a family photo of the delegation of the DED with the staff in Kinshasa.
